Ed Durbin to depart Raising Aspirations Team at BSix

Pembroke alumnus Ed Durbin (2007) has announced that he is to leave his position as Head of Raising Aspirations at BSix in Hackney to train as a teacher.

Ed has been involved in the Pem-Brooke London outreach scheme since its early days, first as an undergraduate mentor, later as a post-graduate tutor and most recently as the dedicated driving force on the staff of BSix itself.

Dr Peter Claus, Access Fellow, commented "Ed Durbin is someone who has done perhaps the most to keep the Pem-Brooke flame alive; never doubting that talent is distributed equally even if opportunity is not."

He went on "This time, however, I have to face the fact that I won’t have Ed to call upon quite as frequently as he is to become a teacher. He will make an excellent educator and I know he will not flinch from going to the poorest part of our country in order to make the greatest difference.

From Pembroke historian to Head of Raising Aspirations at BSix, Ed will be sorely missed by me as a fiercely independent strategist and confidante. I am very grateful indeed for all he has done."

BSix is the founding partner school in the Pem-Brooke London scheme which was established to increase applications to research-intensive universities from sixth formers with non-traditional backgrounds by a programme of sustained academic intervention, encouraging them to study outside their normal curriculum and challenging them to consider higher education in non-vocational subjects.
