Dr Elisabeth Kendall’s New Publication Brings Arabic Language Learning Materials into the 21st Century

NEWS |

Pembroke Senior Research Fellow in Arabic, Dr Elisabeth Kendall, recently co-authored the book ‘Intelligence Arabic’ with Julie Manning. It forms part of her ‘Modern Middle Eastern Vocabularies Series’ with Edinburgh University Press (co-published with Oxford University Press in the USA).

Speaking of the publication, Dr Kendall commented:

‘I conceived of the series, of which I’m also editor, in order to bring Arabic language learning materials into the 21st century for the needs of today’s practitioners. The series was launched with my ‘Media Arabic’ book in 2005 and grew from there. It now includes titles like ‘Security Arabic’, ‘Internet Arabic’ and ‘Media Persian’.

All the books are accompanied by sound recordings to guide correct pronunciation and audio-visual e-Flashcards. For further information click here.

Last month Dr Kendall addressed the 28 European Ambassadors to the EU in Brussels, in preparation for their fact-finding visit to the Middle East. She also spoke about the resurgence of Al-Qaeda at the Middle East Institute in Washington DC and at the International Crisis Group talks in Geneva. She was in Washington DC in March as well, speaking at the United States Central Command Conference, held at the Brookings Center, and also delivered presentations at the US State Department.

Dr Kendall is looking forward to speaking in Saudi Arabia next week, where she will address global security in relation to Donald Trump’s upcoming Presidential visit. We look forward to staying up to date by following her on Twitter @Dr_E_Kendall.
