Dr Annette Idler Discusses US Action in Venezuela

Dr Annette Idler, Associate Professor in Global Security at the Blavatnik School of Government and Founding Director of the Global Security Programme here at Pembroke, has been researching and writing about global security, particularly in South America, for over 15 years. Over the past 10 days her expertise has been called upon worldwide to explore recent US actions in Venezuela and their wider impact.
Following the United Sates’ action against the Maduro regime in early 2026, Dr Idler has spoken to LBC News, BBC News and BBC Brazil, as well as producing an Expert Comment on the topic for Oxford University. Links to these can be found below.
Dr Idler is particularly interested in the potential impact of recent events beyond Venezuela, explaining why this moment is so significant for geopolitics and global security.
Before Christmas, she was also interviewed by Harvard University on a possible US intervention, which was published in Harvard’s Epicenter.
Dr Idler’s work on international security and conflict has been recognised internationally, and she regularly advises governments and international organisations, as well as renowned international media outlets.
