Celebrating Success: Hakan Ozoran
NEWS |
We are delighted to announce that many of our third-year medicine students have achieved a First in their intercalated degrees! Professor Fredrik Karpe, Pembroke College Tutor and Head of the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, congratulates all our Medics on their superb outcomes.
We asked Hakan Ozoran (2019, Medicine) to share his experience studying medicine at Pembroke and his advice for future applicants. In addition to his 1st class degree this year, Hakan also achieved a distinction in his second year and received a letter of commendation from the Chair of Examiners for his academic excellence.
Hakan shares: “My time at Pembroke has undoubtedly been the best three years of life. Studying pre-clinical Medicine has certainly been challenging at times, however the unwavering support from Pembroke tutors was fantastic in helping me navigate the huge amounts of content and new concepts. Pembroke also has an excellent research environment allowing for student involvement in research from a relatively early stage of undergraduate study.
In addition to my academic endeavours, I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the JCR committee, where I was a Welfare representative for a year and am currently a peer supporter for the College. Being involved with College welfare has been hugely rewarding and a great opportunity to give back through fostering inclusivity and a supportive atmosphere.
I would recommend Pembroke to anyone considering applying for Medicine at Oxford. I have found the environment to be both nurturing and relatively low-pressure, allowing for academic excellence without the need to compromise on enjoying student life!”

We also asked fellow student Ariff Castronovo (2019, Medicine) to share his experience. Read about it here.
