Celebrating Success: Emma Lewis

NEWS |

Congratulations to Pembroke student Emma Lewis (2018, Jurisprudence) for winning two University prizes for her performance in Finals! Emma won the 3 Verulam Buildings Prize for best performance in the Commercial Law paper, and the White & Case Prize for best performance in the Company Law paper.

We asked Emma to share her experience studying Law at Pembroke and advice for future applicants:

"I really enjoyed my Law degree and would highly recommend Pembroke to anyone considering studying at Oxford. The Law tutors have been very supportive, which made the transition to a brand new subject in 1st year less daunting.

Beyond my degree, I volunteered with SolidariTee, which is a student charity raising money for legal aid for refugees. This was a rewarding experience and also a great way to meet students from across different colleges. I also enjoyed being part of the JCR Committee by serving as Secretary during my second year. I’d advise any undergrad student to take on some extracurricular commitments to avoid getting too consumed in the workload and the JCR Committee was the perfect opportunity to get to know other members of this friendly college.

Having taken the Law with French Law course, I spent my 3rd year studying law in at Assas University in Paris. I really recommend the Course 2 option to anyone considering a Law application. Despite my 3rd year suffering from some Covid lockdowns, l loved living in Paris and it was a great chance to get to know another city. It was also interesting to learn about another, very different, legal system. I think that the year helped me develop my legal skills which was valuable in my final year."
