Celebrating Success: Catherine Ashworth
NEWS |
Catherine Ashworth (2016, MPhysPhil Physics and Philosophy) recently completed her degree, earning 2nd place in her cohort across the university and was awarded Pembroke’s Levick Prize for Philosophy. She is excited to stay at Pembroke for a BPhil in Philosophy, having won the RG Collingwood Scholarship to continue her studies. Reflecting on her time at Pembroke, she says:
“I can’t believe how fast the last 5 years have gone. Pembroke is a beautiful college, I still feel privileged to be connected to Pembroke as I walk through chapel quad on a sunny day. I also feel lucky to have had the support of the Pembroke community throughout my degree – particularly the engagement with my tutors and peers. There is a wonderful community of physicists and philosophers in Pembroke through the many dinners and talks that the tutors host in college.
I particularly enjoyed my master’s year – I took advanced philosophy of physics, theoretical physics and wrote a thesis on the conceptual status of probability in Many Worlds Quantum Mechanics. I enjoyed developing my own ideas and exploring them in depth in my thesis. The workload has always been difficult, but rewarding.
In my BPhil I’ll be continuing my study in Philosophy of Physics and Science, increasing the breadth of my knowledge across the field before I choose a thesis topic to study in depth.”
