Book of Hours on Loan to Prague City Archives Exhibition

NEWS |

One of Pembroke’s treasures, a Book of Hours that once belonged to the Queen of Bohemia, is currently on loan to the Prague City Archives.

It will be shown in the exhibition “John Huss and the Hussites in Prague, 1415-2015”, part of Prague’s commemoration of the death of Jan Hus 600 years ago. As well as our manuscript, they will be displaying art and artefacts from Hus’ time and beyond, demonstrating the resonance of the Hussite influence through Czech history.

Pembroke’s Book of Hours was created at the very beginning of the fifteenth century, and contains a number of extremely fine illuminations, one of which will be on display. It shows the fine craftsmanship and high culture of Bohemia at that time.

The exhibition is open at the Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague from 24 September until 24 January 2016
