Pembroke Alumnus Receives Art Fund Award for Curatorial Work at the British Library

Daniel Lowe (2001, Oriental Studies), Curator of Arabic Collections in the Asia and Africa Department at the British Library, has recently been awarded one of Art Fund’s New Collecting Awards in recognition of his curatorial work. The total of the award, which is around £150,000, was shared between four ambitious UK curators to fund the pursuit of new avenues of collecting for their museums and to build critical professional skills. Daniel shares his plans for the fund saying:

“The award will fund a research-led collecting project at the British Library for modern and contemporary materials related to visual cultures from the Middle East and North Africa including book-objects and other printed matter in various formats, such as zines, comics, graphic novels, artists’ books, photo books and ephemera.”

Congratulations to Daniel, who joins one of 39 curators to have received this award in the past seven years. An image can be found below to illustrate the types of materials in the collecting project.

The Art Fund is a national fundraising charity for art founded in 1903 to help and enrich UK museums and galleries. Find more details here. Further details of this year’s award recipients can also be found here.
