What is Happiness? - HRH Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of Jordan

On Friday 26th February, Pembroke welcomes Islamic philosopher, writer, Chief Advisor for Religious and Cultural Affairs and Personal Envoy to King Abdullah II of Jordan, HRH Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad.

Prince Ghazi will discuss the meaning of happiness in religious and philosophical terms, starting from first principles, with some special reference to the twenty-first century context. 

Hosted by the Oxford University Islamic Society for Experience Islam Week, this event is open to the public and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis with doors opening at 6.30pm.

Prince Ghazi graduated from Princeton University in 1988 with a BA in Comparative Literature and obtained his doctorate on ‘the literary archetype of love’ from Trinity College, Cambridge. At Al-Azhar University he wrote a second doctoral thesis on ‘Love in the Holy Quran’, which was published in English and Arabic and has received wide acclaim in Muslim scholarship.

In addition to his political and academic work, Prince Ghazi is also Chair of the Board of Trustes of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought. He is perhaps best known for his work in Chairing the Committee of the 2004 Amman Message declaration for Muslim tolerance and unity and for coordinating the Christian-Muslim initiative, ‘A Common Word Between Us and You’.
