The Sinjar Peace Agreement: Lessons, Limitations, and Local Voices - Practitioner’s Perspective from Iraq
Speaker: Giorgi Gigauri, Visiting Fellow, Global Security Programme
Allen & Overy Room, and online | Tuesday 3rd March 2026 | 5:00pm

Five years after the Sinjar Peace Agreement, the promise of stabilization for Iraq’s Yazidi community remains only partially fulfilled.

This talk offers a practitioner’s, field-based assessment of the agreement’s implementation, to examine lived realities on the ground. It explores stalled returns, contested security arrangements, governance gaps, housing and land disputes, and the enduring impact of ISIL atrocities.

Drawing on direct operational experience, the presentation reflects on why high-level political agreements often falter in practice and what is required to enable sustainable returns, justice, and durable peace in Sinjar, Iraq.

This event is run by Oxford Global Security Programme, a research group based at Pembroke.

Online attendees will receive the webinar link on Friday 27th February.
