Poetry at Pembroke: Nicola Harrison, Performance & Book Launch

Please join us on 11 June at 6pm in the Pichette Auditorium, Pembroke College for the final event in Trinity's Poetry at Pembroke Series.
Nicola Harrison, author, performance poet, singer, educator, retained lecturer in singing and interpretation at Pembroke College, launches two bijou books of poetry with musical improvisation from two acclaimed jazz musicians and chat about her writing.
One is the sea oddessey, The Becoming, with a few other sea poems in it, and the other is an illustrated collection of 12 poems about wine.
The Becoming is a gripping musical narrative written by Nicola Harrison and illustrated by Imogen Foxell. It was written originally for instrumentation and it will be narrated with instrumentation from pianist Martin Pickett and percussionist Keith Fairbairn.
The series has been organised by Dr Peter King, Lecturer in Philosophy at Pembroke. Performances take place every Monday evening at 6pm between 23rd April - 11th June.

Nicola Harrison is currently the retained Lecturer in Singing and Interpretation at Pembroke College, Oxford. She is a poet, author, singer, performance poet and educator who brings song, poetry, text and music together in innovative performance across musical genres and often with jazz improvisation. Director and scriptwriter for her touring company Casa Margarita, a show of Spanish songs, music and storytelling, she has performed the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca with flamenco guitarists, her songs recorded for an award-winning documentary about the Spanish Civil War, performed her own poetry with her trio/quartet, the poetry of metaphysical, Elizabethan and modern poets with jazz improvisation and created shows of poetry, music and song. Most recently she has performed the poetry of Ivor Gurney with Divertimento quartet and international baritone Michael Lampard. She has written two critically acclaimed books about poetry and music in English Song (The Wordsmith’s Guide: Poetry, Music and Imagination) and two bijou poetry books, both show-themed with music and song. She has also written for other music-related media such as, among others, Classical Music Magazine, The Singer and British Music magazine, and a variety of newspapers, journals and radio on matters of words and music. She also writes books on anatomy for singers and researches the science of singing with anatomists and neuroscientists at University of Wales, Cardiff.
