Sofa hostess extraordinaire TANYA BECKETT (1984) interviews some remarkable Pembrokians, threading their individual narratives together expertly into a rich tapestry of voices and experiences.

Tanya Beckett: Tanya has worked in broadcasting and the media for over twenty years. She started out at the FT, then went to work for CNBC, Sky News, CNN and since 1998, the BBC.

She has worked on a variety of programmes on BBWorldNews, the Newschannel, Radio 4 and BBC1 and BBC2 including Our World, Working Lunch, Today, World Business report, Newsnight and World Business Report. She also spent 3 years living in and reporting from New York.

Tanya has a degree from Oxford University in Metallurgy and Materials Science and spent 5 years as an investment banker in Frankfurt and London.

Matthew Crampton now works as a writer, storyteller and folk singer. He's currently touring a show he co-wrote called The Transports, about petty criminals transported as cheap labour to Australia in the 1780s. His latest book covers a similar theme - Human Cargo: Songs and Stories of Emigration, Slavery and Transportation.

Aside from this worthy stuff, he also performs music hall and comic material.

Anna Mazzola is a writer of historical crime fiction and, probably due to some fault of her parents, is drawn to peculiar and dark historical subjects. Her debut novel, The Unseeing, published in July 2016, is based on the life of a real woman called Sarah Gale who was convicted of aiding a murder in London in 1837. Her second novel, The Story Keeper, is about a collector of folklore on 19th century Skye and will be published in May 2018. She also writes short stories.

After studying English at Pembroke, Anna accidentally became a human rights and criminal justice solicitor. She lives in Camberwell, South London, with two small children, two cats and one husband.

Rachel is an executive producer and latterly the BBC television's Commissioning Editor for history, science and religion till she quit in February to go global, firstly to travel during a 6 month sabbatical and now to make programmes for the US and international market.

A journalist by training, her passion lies in delivering intelligent, entertaining mass appeal shows with news impact and revelation. In the indie sector she buried Richard III for C4, exec'd the BBC1 living history hit "24 Hours In The Past", oversaw BAFTA and RTS winning series such as the BBC's 'The Choir', 'Tribal Wives', the real fawlty towers rig show 'The Hotel' for C4 and even has a no.1 hit in her credits - the 2014 Children In Need charity single! To add to such a stratospheric career high, when astronaut Tim Peake launched into space she was the BBC’s exec on for all things orbital including Tim’s launch in 'Stargazing Live: A Brit In Space’ which was also nominated for a BAFTA.  In Rachel’s 26 years in television trainspotting had never been part of her eclectic slate (or occupied any part of her much valued time on earth) till she was handed responsibility for  BBC4’s “ Trainspotting Live” that, to everyone’s astonishment, went viral at high speed, hit the front page of The Sun and became cult on Radio 1! Peter Snow had never been so cool!

She firmly believes that the broadcasting industry is only at the beginning of seismic change - the biggest change since her career began 26 years ago. While the British broadcasting industry remains a major driving force for innovation and quality, she believes the global markets and non-linear, non-TV based digital industries are where creative and financial success now lies and therefore so does her future!
