The Importance of Being Earnest - Pembroke Arts Festival

PAST EVENT | 03 May 2018 17:30

"It is absurd to have a hard and fast rule about what one should read and what one shouldn't. More than half of modern culture depends on what one shouldn't read."

Everyone knows it's wrong to lie, but sometimes it can't hurt to twist the truth... or can it? Jack, alias Ernest, wants to marry Gwendolen. Algernon, alias Ernest, wants to marry Cecily. Neither Gwendolen nor Cecily will settle for anything less than an Ernest. And Algernon's aunt, Lady Bracknell, is having none of it. In this much-loved comedy by Oscar Wilde, cucumber sandwiches vanish at an alarming rate, babies get left in train-terminus cloakrooms, and young girls get engaged to men who don’t exist. Let the bunburying begin!
