Dr Anthony O’Mahony is a Reader in the History of Christianity, Heythrop College, University of London. He will deliver a lecture titled 'Louis Massignon, the Melkite Greek Catholic Church and the Christian encounter with Islam' on Tuesday 30th May at 5pm in the Allen & Overy Room at Pembroke College. This event is free and open to all. 

It is part of the Eastern Christianity and Islam Lecture Seminar Series, which is running on Tuesdays at 5pm-6.30pm throughout Trinity term at Pembroke College.

These lectures will highlight the various aspects of the relationship of Eastern Christianity with Islam in history and modern times. Multi-ethnic Christian communities are amongst the most ancient natives in the Middle East and the wider West Asia region. While small in numbers relative to global Christianity, Eastern Christian communities have deep religious and cultural roots in the region. They have coexisted with Islam for centuries in peace and in conflict. This is the continuation of the series on Eastern Christianity held during previous terms.
