Dr Alex Henley: Maronite Muftis and Muslim Patriarchs? The Practice of Religious Leadership in Multi-confessional Lebanon
PAST EVENT | 02 May 2017 17:00 - 02 May 2017 18:30
Dr Alex Henley is a Departmental Lecturer in Islam. He will deliver a lecture titled 'Maronite Muftis and Muslim Patriarchs? The Practice of Religious Leadership in Multi-confessional Lebanon' on Tuesday 2nd May at 5pm in the Allen & Overy Room at Pembroke College. This event is free and open to all.
It is part of the Eastern Christianity and Islam Lecture Seminar Series, which is running on Tuesdays at 5pm-6.30pm throughout Trinity term at Pembroke College.
These lectures will highlight the various aspects of the relationship of Eastern Christianity with Islam in history and modern
times. Multi-ethnic Christian communities are amongst the most ancient natives in the Middle East and the wider West Asia region. While small in numbers relative to global Christianity, Eastern Christian communities have deep religious and cultural roots in the region. They have coexisted with Islam for centuries in peace and in conflict. This is the continuation of the series on Eastern Christianity held during previous terms.
The conveners are Dr Hratch Tchilingirian and Prof Theo Maarten van Lint, the Oriental Institute, University of Oxford.
For further information please email: hratch.tchilingirian@orinst.ox.ac.uk or theo.vanlint@orinst.ox.ac.uk
These lecture series are organised with the support of Oxford Armenian Studies.
