Baroness Carr became Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales in October 2023. In this role she is President of the Courts of England and Wales and Head of the Judiciary of England and Wales. She is the first woman to hold this historic office. Prior to her appointment as Lady Chief Justice and since the start of her legal career in 1987, she has held positions across the High Court, served as Presider to the Midland Circuit from 2016-2020, then as Lady Justice of Appeal, the senior Judicial Commissioner and Vice Chair of the Judicial Appointments Commission. She was a temporary Investigatory Powers Commissioner during the Covid-19 pandemic and became President of the Professional Negligence Bar Association in 2022.
