Open to all students, this special viewing is being held to showcase a painting by John Bratby, which belongs to the JCR Art Fund Collection, and is being temporarily exhibited in the College gallery before being sent off for conservation.

John Bratby was a British painter who worked mainly in the 1960s and 70s. He is famous for founding the 'kitchen sink realism' movement, in which artists used everyday objects, like newspapers and coffee cups, as the subjects of their works. Bratby himself aimed to capture the reality of his middle class family's daily lives, in a style characterised by thickly lain paint and abstracted objects.  

For this viewing we will be lucky enough to have the gallery interns, Beatrice Cooke and Miriam Stoney, on hand to explain the significance of this work and other works in the gallery.
