20/20 Business Park, Maidstone, ME16 0LE

Kent Alumni Ambassador, Chris Cain, would like to invite you to the first of alumni events for 2026 which is a trip to the Allington Integrated Waste Management Facility in Maidstone.  The facility covers a major 84-acre energy-from-waste (EfW) plant.  Its purpose being part of Kent County Council's strategy to reduce waste, aiming for zero waste to landfill.

The first part of the visit will be a presentation, giving a basic overview of how the plant operates.   The second part will be viewing the weighbridge, tipping hall and control room.  The whole tour will take approximately two hours.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 71 STEPS TO ACCESS THE CONTROL ROOM, SO THIS TRIP MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE.

Personal protective clothing such as hard hats, high visibility vests and safety glasses will be provided, however visitors must wear long sleeves/trousers and sensible, flat, closed in footwear, otherwise they will not be able to visit certain areas. Please note the site is hot and dusty, and you will be going into an area where waste is delivered so please do not wear your best attire!

  • Date & Time: 23rd April 2026 at 10am.  Meet time: 9.45am

  • Location: 20/20 Business Park, Laverstoke Road, Allington, Maidstone, Kent, ME16 0LE.

Please note that there are limited spaces available, so please let Chris know as soon as possible if you are able to attend.

This event is free of charge.

Afterwards, Chris thought it would be good to retire to "The Fields" public house, which is close by, for coffee and/or early lunch.
