Dr Lois Brand
I lead on the clinical course at Pembroke, co-ordinating tutorials and ensuring that our students get the support they need both academically and pastorally in the clinical years. I co-ordinate the tutorial programme for Pembroke clinical students and am also educational supervisor for several Pembroke clinical students.
I am Associate Director of Clinical Studies on the clinical course at Oxford and lead on pastoral care in the clinical school. Following many decades of experience in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education I also work as a Quality Assurance Associate with the General Medical Council (GMC), which involves assessing the quality of medical undergraduate training in medical schools across the UK. My clinical background is in emergency medicine with a subspecialty interest in care of the elderly emergency patient.
I have a particular interest in medical career management and completed a Masters in this topic in 2014. I advise nationally on career-related issues within medicine and work with doctors at all stages on career planning and development. I am a regular speaker at conferences on my area of special interest – Career Longevity in Medicine. Other clinical, educational and research interests include:
- Elderly trauma management
- Human factors in emergency care
- Student wellbeing and support
- Simulation training for emergency care
