A World Turned Upside Down - A Lecture by Lord Heseltine

PAST EVENT | 18 November 2021 17:30 - 18 November 2021 19:00

Pembroke College is pleased to welcome Lord Heseltine (PPE, 1951), Honorary Fellow, for his lecture 'A World Turned Upside Down'.

About the Lecture:

"My political career began at the time of the publication of the Redcliffe-Maud report into the structure of local government in England.

As number two to Peter Walker, I saw through the major reform of the 1970s.  England remained over centralised.  The great cities of provincial England became branch offices of Whitehall.

The visits of 1981 provided a totally different perspective of how we are governed.  It convinced me of the need for structural and economic devolution.

The lecture follows my journey to the present position of unfinished business."
