The panel will be discussing the issues surrounding the UK education system and the radical changes that may be needed to solve the. The panel will feature individuals whose areas of expertise lie in charity, state education and academia.
Our speakers include:
1) Professor Anthony Heath: Anthony Heath is the Director of the Centre for Social Investigation at Nuffield College, Oxford. He is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of Oxford and Professor of Sociology at Manchester University. His research interests cover social stratification, ethnicity, electoral behaviour and national identity.
2) Professor Francis Green: Francis Green holds the post of Professor of Work and Education Economics at the UCL Institute of Education. He has recently co-authored Engines of Privilege: Britain’s Private School Problem (Bloomsbury, 2019), arguing that there is an educational apartheid separating private schools from state schools, which blocks social mobility and reproduces privilege down the generations.
3.) Dr Peter Claus, Pembroke Access Fellow: Peter is chiefly responsible for a professional network of universities, schools and third-sector organisations that encourage pupils from challenging socio-economic circumstances to enter Oxford and other competitive universities.
