Many congratulations to Pembroke DPhil student in Cyber Security, George Chalhoub, for completing an internship at Microsoft Research, which resulted in a top-tier publication for the CHI22 Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems - the premier international conference of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

Our £14m development of the Sir Geoffrey Arthur Building (GAB) is almost complete with first occupants due to move in in Autumn 2022. To celebrate reaching the milestone of the highest construction point, the GAB Project Team hosted a 'Topping Out Ceremony' with their consultants.

Congratulations our Stipendiary Lecturer in Physics Laurence Wroe (2014, MPhys Physics) who recently won funding from the Public Engagement with Research Seed Fund (PER) to develop a 'Funky-Shaped Drums and Particle Accelerators' workshop for 11-14 year old school students.

A ledger stone inscribed with the name of Sir Roger Bannister, former Master of Pembroke College, was placed in Westminster Abbey last September to honour Sir Roger’s name as a pioneering neurologist and a world champion runner.

The Master’s Prizes were awarded to students who have exhibited outstanding leadership, either within or outside the College community, during the course of 2021. Nominations were considered from the JCR, the MCR, Governing Body Fellows, Academics and support staff.

Congratulations to Dr Annette Idler, Director of the Global Security Programme and Senior Research Fellow at Pembroke, for receiving the 2022 ‘Premio Iberoamericano’ for her book Fronteras Rojas: Una Mirada al Conflicto y el Crimen desde los Márgenes de Colombia, Ecuador y Venezuela.

Fellows were pleased to gather on 4th March along with some staff and students for our first annual Commemoration Dinner. This event honoured those who had left Governing Body during the pandemic without a full farewell and introduced and congratulated those who had most recently been elected to new Fellowships.

Last year, students and fellows were asked to nominate tutors for an award to recognise their commitment and dedication to teaching. After having to postpone the ceremony due to the pandemic, it was recently held in College and the tutors receiving awards were celebrated by the Master, Academic Director, students and Fellows.

Pembroke Senior Research Fellow in Arabic, Dr Elisabeth Kendall, has been elected as the new Mistress of Girton College, Cambridge starting October 2022.
