Access Week 2025: From Local to Global

Designed to emulate 'a week in the life of an Oxford undergraduate', Access Week is an annual summer residential at Pembroke College. Select pupils from our target regions who have participated in our Access and Outreach programmes were invited to attend the residential, which took place this summer. We welcomed 120 pupils who participated in tutorials, seminars, mock interviews, academic trips, and much more.

Reflections of a Recent Pembroke Graduate

Michaelmas term is fast approaching, which can only mean one thing – an onslaught of Freshers will be imminently arriving to Oxford and Pembroke. Starting university can be a big transition for anyone. We thought we’d ask one of our fresh graduates, Rohit Ghosh, to reflect on his time at Pembroke, looking all the way back to his own Freshers’ week.

Sir Ernest Ryder Conducts Review of Commons Standards System

Master of Pembroke, Sir Ernest Ryder, was recently commissioned by the Committee on Standards to conduct a review of fairness and natural justice and the House of Commons Standards system. Sir Ernest's proposals and recommendations will inform a final report which will be presented to the House of Commons.

Thanksgiving Service held for Professor Robert Stevens

25 April 2022

On 24th March a service of thanksgiving for the life of Professor Robert Stevens was held in the Oxford University Church. Professor Stevens, who came to Pembroke in 1993 and served as Master for eight years before being elected to Honorary Fellowship in 2001, died in January 2021 at the age of 87.

Human-Computer Interaction Publication Follows DPhil Student’s Internship

Many congratulations to Pembroke DPhil student in Cyber Security, George Chalhoub, for completing an internship at Microsoft Research, which resulted in a top-tier publication for the CHI22 Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems - the premier international conference of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

Our £14m development of the Sir Geoffrey Arthur Building (GAB) is almost complete with first occupants due to move in in Autumn 2022. To celebrate reaching the milestone of the highest construction point, the GAB Project Team hosted a 'Topping Out Ceremony' with their consultants.

Laurence Wroe wins funding to develop a workshop for school students that combines physics and music

Congratulations our Stipendiary Lecturer in Physics Laurence Wroe (2014, MPhys Physics) who recently won funding from the Public Engagement with Research Seed Fund (PER) to develop a 'Funky-Shaped Drums and Particle Accelerators' workshop for 11-14 year old school students.

Memorial Stone Honouring Sir Roger Bannister Placed in Westminster Abbey

A ledger stone inscribed with the name of Sir Roger Bannister, former Master of Pembroke College, was placed in Westminster Abbey last September to honour Sir Roger’s name as a pioneering neurologist and a world champion runner.
