Many of our alumni will have fond memories of the JCR Art Fund, with Pembroke being the first Oxbridge college to establish a student-owned art collection. We spoke to current Treasurer of the Art Fund, Georgia Douglas, who told us about the importance of the art collection to the JCR today.

Having recently received their offers to study at Pembroke, our 2023 Undergraduate Offer Holders were invited to College earlier this month for a chance to look around and to meet current students and members of staff.

Last summer, Pembroke student Jan Luboiński (2018, MBiol Biology) took part in a 5-week research internship at the Knowles Lab in Oxford, studying new questions about the formation of the gut microbiome.

We are excited to share with you the work of one of our alumni, Denise Swanborn (2016, MSc Biodiversity, Conservation and Management) and previous staff member Bastiaan van Dalen, who was part of our lodge team from 2018-2019! Bastiaan is now a PhD researcher at the University of Exeter.

For the UK's 16th National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), we are asking our Library Management and Archive Apprentice, Brooke Cunningham, to share her experience so far at Pembroke. NAW celebrates the achievements of our apprentices, and highlights the positive impact apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

Last year, Janina Branke (2019, MEng Engineering Science) completed a summer internship as a Technology Innovation Engineer at BP. Her projects supported progress in renewable energy: one developing a robotic arm for electric vehicle charging, and the other determining methods to improve the circularity of offshore wind farms.

Congratulations to Pembroke Tutor in Engineering Science, Professor Clive Siviour, for receiving an MPLS Outstanding Research Supervision Award. This award celebrates research staff and academics who go above and beyond in supporting their colleagues.

Last summer, Lara Clarke (2020, Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics) took part in an internship which involved running a pair of experiments over eight weeks, asking questions about how people manage emotions by talking about them with others.

Last November, Lord Alderdice, Executive Chairman of the Changing Character of War research centre which is based at Pembroke, was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 RCPsych Awards.
