The Tanaka Symposium plays a crucial role in the promotion & exchange of new knowledge among scholars & students of Japanese studies in the UK. Recently, Pembroke held its 5th symposium: Reconfiguring the Concept of Religion in Modern Japan.

The College was deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of Dr Bill Dorey (1949, Modern History), a Pembroke alumnus, Honorary Fellow and former Advisory Fellow.

Congratulations to our Stanley Ho Junior Research Fellow in Chinese Studies, Dr Xiaojing Miao, for organising and taking part in a successful panel at the 2023 Association for Asian Studies Annual Conference, the largest gathering in the world for scholars of Asian Studies.

This award, organised by the JCR, is given to a student nominated by JCR members for “embodying everything that makes Pembroke great” and for contributing to College life over the course of the year.

Congratulations to Pembroke Student Wantoe T Wantoe who has been shortlisted for two awards at the Oxford Student Union Annual Student Awards.

Congratulations to Pembroke JRF Dr Suzan Meryem Rosita Kalaycı who has been awarded a prestigious writing fellowship at Yaddo, one of the oldest and most established artist colonies in the US.

On Saturday 20th May, we were pleased to welcome the winners of the Pembroke Inspirational Teachers Award to college for the JCR Guest Dinner!

Congratulations to Pembroke student Benoit Mes (2021, History) who has been awarded a prestigious research fellowship by the Gilder Lehrman Institute! We asked Benoit to tell us more about this fellowship and his undergraduate thesis research topic.

Research that Pembroke student Alex Welch undertook during his undergraduate studies has been published in Nature Methods. Alex studied Biochemistry at Pembroke from 2018, graduating with First Class Honours in 2022.
