Donning Pembroke pink t-shirts, our student ambassadors welcomed hundreds of prospective applicants to College last week as part of Oxford University’s Undergraduate Open Days. 

Pembroke alumnus and philanthropist Dr Thomas S. Kaplan has committed over £4 million to the College to establish the Recanati-Kaplan Minerva Institute — the world’s first-ever interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to tackling urgent global challenges at the intersection of environmental conservation and security.

Professor Yimon Aye has been awarded the Corday-Morgan Mid-Career Prize for Chemistry in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s 2026 Prizes for her pioneering contributions to the development of live-cell-based tools that can elucidate, reprogramme and chemically manipulate biological signalling mechanisms.

We were delighted to welcome award-winning author Brandon Sanderson earlier this term to deliver Pembroke’s 2026 J.R.R. Tolkien Lecture on Fantasy Literature.

In an important discovery for the next generation of malaria vaccines, Pembroke Lecturer Dr Barney Williams and other Oxford researchers have identified how antibodies can be over 90% effective at preventing malaria parasites from growing.

Professor Seena Fazel, Senior Associate at Pembroke and Professor of Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Oxford, has been reappointed by the Deputy Prime Minister to the Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody (IAPDC). 

The Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU), led by Pembroke Senior Research Fellow Professor Amy Dickman, has been recognised with the University of Oxford’s 2026 Vice Chancellor’s Making a Difference Globally Award.

In 2025, JCR Access and Outreach Rep Lennon Airey co-founded a free mentorship organisation for students in the North East. He shared with us his motivations for starting StateElevate, the organisation’s successes so far, and his hopes for the future. 

On Pentecost Sunday, the Chapel Choir of Pembroke College, Oxford released Yn Devotione, their first new album in 20 years.
