BBC World News Interview Dr Annette Idler On Colombia Peace Deal

Dr Annette Idler, Director of Studies at ‘The Changing Character of War Programme’ based at Pembroke College, has spoken to BBC World News about the new peace deal in Colombia.

The peace deal, between Colombian Government and the FARC, comes just over a month after the first deal was rejected in a national vote. This week the agreement bypasses a second national referendum, and proceeds straight to Colombia’s congress.

In a recent BBC radio interview (speaking from 28 minutes in) Dr Idler responds to questions surrounding the new accord, democratic ideals and the urgency to establish national unity.

On 1st December, Dr Idler was interviewed on Al Jazeera television about the future of the Colombian peace deal.

Dr Idler is a specialist on Colombia. She has conducted one year of independent fieldwork in the Colombia’s war-torn borderlands and has an in-depth, first-hand understanding of conflict dynamics on the ground. Her research looks at violent non-state actors and security, with a particular focus on borderlands and the fusion of security threats. She previously appeared on Al Jazeera TV and BBC World Service Radio talking about the first peace deal, as reported by Pembroke on 1st September 2016.
