Dr Annette Idler, Director of Studies at the Changing Character of War Programme based at Pembroke College, has been interviewed by Al Jazeera television and BBC World Service radio about the end to the civil war in Colombia, an area of great interest in her academic research.

Taking part in a discussion group broadcast on Al Jazeera’s ‘Inside Story’ programme on 30th August, Annette discussed the recent historic truce between the government in Colombia and the leftist guerrilla group, the FARC. Talking to the show’s host Adrian Finighan, Annette offered her views alongside Kristian Herbolzheimer (Director of the Philippines and Colombia Programmes at Conciliation Resources) and Bernardo Perez-Salazar (Researcher at the Armed Conflict and Peace Process at the Catholic University of Colombia). The programme is available to watch online here.

Dr Idler also took part in two interviews on BBC World Service Radio earlier this week about the civil war, which has stretched across more than half a century. Her contributions can be heard from 0:57 to 5:30 here and from 2:08 to 6:56 here.

In a written piece for The Conversation, Dr Idler summarises the potential impact of this momentous deal for the future of Colombia. She has also recently published a policy briefing on the post-agreement strategy, which can be viewed here in English and in Spanish. Finally, Dr Idler wrote an article for the Washington Post, published on 8th September, entitled 'Why the real test for Colombia's peace begins after the demobilization process'.

A Research Associate at the University of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations, Dr Idler has conducted extensive fieldwork in war-torn and crisis-affected areas, including the borderlands of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.
