OxNet Postgraduate Tutor

Pembroke College are currently recruiting for Postgraduate Tutors from across the University of Oxford to support the OxNet Access initiative in 2024.

Role responsibilities:

We are looking for Postgraduates who can:

  1. Choose an introductory topic for their subject area
  2. Deliver a 1-hour online lecture during an evening (Monday-Friday, 6pm-7pm) in June 2024 based on the introductory topic
  3. Create an accessible reading list which corresponds to the topic, building on the lecture
  4. Deliver an in-person tutorial at Pembroke College on 5th August 2024, discussing the readings & a topic question with a small group of pupils
  5. Set an essay question based on the topic
  6. Review the pupils essays (no written feedback or marking is required)
  7. Deliver a second in-person tutorial at Pembroke College on 8th August where you review the essays and pose questions to encourage group discussion

Remuneration:

Tutors will be paid at the Senior Tutor rate, which is currently £27.65 per contact hour. This is the Senior Tutor rate as seen across the University of Oxford (please note that this rate has been designed to encapsulate any preparation and follow up work – any preparation time and follow up work will not be paid separately).

  4. Why you would like to be a Postgraduate Tutor for the OxNet Access initiative?
  5. What experience, if any, you have working with young people in a teaching/mentoring/leadership role/whether you have ever taught a tutorial previously (please note that previous experience is not required for this role)
  6. Do you have a valid DBS certificate issued in the last 12 months? (Please note that a DBS check is not required for this role, but we will take details of mentors who have existing checks)
  7. Whether you can deliver the tutorials in-person on the 5th & 8th August 2024?
  8. Anything else you think we should know in relation to your application

Further notes:

  1. All successful candidates will be required to provide evidence of their right to work in the UK in advance of starting any work
  2. Candidates in the UK on a Visa must ensure they do not exceed their legal working limit
  3. All candidates should have a valid national insurance number
