Pembroke Fellow and Graduate Students at Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition

Pembroke Engineering Fellow, Professor Clive Siviour, and graduate students Sung-Ho Yoon and Heather Wilson have been taking part in the prestigious Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition.

Together with colleagues in the Department of Chemistry at Reading University, their stand, ‘Materials That Repair Themselves’, explores the chemistry and materials engineering behind recently developed polymers which, when broken, can rapidly repair the damage and recover their original strength.

The exhibition is running from 30th June to 5th July at the Royal Society in London and is attended by members of the public, school groups, Fellows and other guests.  Pupils (and Fellows!) particularly enjoyed making high speed videos of bursting balloons, and seeing the latest commercial polymers which when cut into two pieces will heal back together in just a few seconds.
