Undergraduate Cesca Webb Receives Award for Physics Talk
NEWS |
Pembroke undergraduate and Scholar, Cesca Webb (MPhys Physics, 2015) was awarded a prize for the best talk delivered by a second year physicist in College. She spoke about the dangers and wonders of the chemical Dihydrogen Monoxide, explaining that exciting new physics can be done around the most everyday of subjects.
Reflecting on her talk, Cesca commented:
'I'm delighted to receive this award, as I've always enjoyed all forms of public speaking. I'm also really glad that science communication projects like this are incorporated into our course, as the skills they teach are vital for a career in Physics.
In my presentation, I discussed some of the bizarre phenomena of water. In my opinion, not enough media attention is given to the science of the everyday, and I wanted to demonstrate that even something as seemingly simple as water can still display some very complex behaviour if you look closer at it. Sometimes, interesting science really is right under our noses!’
She has since been nominated to participate in the speaking competition at the Oxford Department of Physics. Congratulations Cesca!
