Sir Robert Clarke (1949, and Honorary Fellow)

NEWS |

It is with great sadness that the College has learned of the death of Sir Robert (Bob) Clarke (1949, and Honorary Fellow).

Bob was chairman of United Biscuits and Thames Water. In 1949, following National Service in the Royal West Kent Rgt, he came up to Pembroke to read Modern History. In 1952 he joined Cadbury Bros, before moving to United Biscuits in 1974. He was knighted in 1993, and throughout the 1990s served as chairman of Great Ormond Street’s Special Trustees and was a member of its trust board.

Bob was a dedicated and highly-valued member of the College community. Before becoming an Honorary Fellow, Bob served as an Advisory Fellow (very rarely missing a Governing Body meeting) and contributed great wisdom and experience serving for many years on the Development Committee.

The College flag will fly at half mast this week as a mark of respect.
