Scholars Lecture and Dinner 2014

Professor Irene Tracey, Pembroke Fellow and Nuffield Professor of Anaesthetic Science, gave the 2014 Pembroke Scholars Lecture on 12th November.  Her topic was Pain, Pleasure and Altered States of Consciousness.  

Professor Tracey described how advanced neuroimaging has been used to study the neural underpinnings of human pain experiences and how they are influenced by emotions, expectations and injury. She went on to explain the links between pain relief and pleasure, and also briefly discussed latest data examining anaesthesia induced altered states of consciousness.
