Rare Rising Star award for Tyrone Steele

NEWS |

Recent graduate Tyrone Steele (2011, Theology) has been recognised by a national awards scheme for his achievements in academia, student politics and community activism.  In a ceremony at the House of Commons in July Tyrone was praised for his work in youth politics in Oxford, his home city, as well as for his campaigning on the issues of race, Lesbian‑Gay‑Bisexual‑Transgender (LGBT) rights and other equality issues.

During his time at Pembroke Tyrone has been not only been Vice President of the Boat Club, but has also been involved with access and outreach work, most recently acting as a mentor to students attending the North West Theology Centre summer school here in College.  This summer he graduates with his BA in Theology.

Tyrone commented: "I'm proud and humbled to win this award.  It's really more than I would have ever expected - especially being nominated anonymously!"
