Professor Rodney Phillips announced as next Dean of Medicine for UNSW

The University of New South Wales in Sydney has announced that their next Dean of Medicine will be Pembroke Fellow Professor Rodney Phillips. After more than 30 years at Oxford University Professor Phillips will take up his new role in mid-2015.

Professor Phillips is Director of the Peter Medawar Building for Pathogen Research at Oxford and Co-Director of the Oxford Martin Institute for Emerging Infections. His personal research is focused on HIV/AIDS. His Oxford group first described how the AIDS virus escapes recognition by human immunity.  He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Academy of Medical Sciences and a Fellow by special election of Pembroke College.
