Pembroke Team Win Tri-Innovate 2017 with Innovative Audio-Navigation Concept

NEWS |

Pembroke College was delighted to host Tri-Innovate 2017, a competitive event in which students from Wolfson, Hertford and Pembroke colleges pitch their idea to a team of expert judges, with the chance of winning prize money and access to invaluable expertise. Congratulations to all five teams who took part in the final!

This year, ideas covered a breadth of subject areas and addressed a wide range of issues. We’re delighted to report that the winning team was led by Pembroke student Daniela Massiceti (DPhil Engineering Science, 2015). She was joined by Jonathan Downing (DPhil Engineering Science, 2014) and Saumya Jetley from St Cross College (DPhil Engineering Science,2014). We caught up with Daniela to find out more about the winning concept:

‘We pitched our idea, Listen2See, which is an audio-guided navigation tool for partially-sighted people. Basically, it would construct an auditory landscape, enabling partially-sighted people to better navigate around a dynamic world.’

The team found the overall experience to be hugely rewarding. Reflecting on the event, Daniela said:

‘It was a huge honour to have our idea validated by a panel of judges with both business and science backgrounds, and the discussions we had with them following the pitch were enlightening. They provided a lot of good feedback and suggested ways in which we can take our proposal forward as a business idea. The Tri-Innovate success has really spurred us on as a team, and we are excited for what is to come for Listen2See’… So are we!
