Pembroke re-launches successful awards and internship programmes funded by alumnus Chris Rokos

NEWS |

We are delighted to announce the return for 2025-26 of Pembroke’s Rokos Internship and Awards schemes. Generously funded by alumnus Chris Rokos, the programmes bring significant and unique opportunities for academic development among our undergraduate community.

The Rokos Internship scheme allows Pembroke STEM students to take part in the latest scientific research through summer internships, offering full funding to cover the costs of accommodation, living and academic expenses.

Previous students have used the scheme to undertake placements in research centres, laboratories and field stations around the world, from developing renewable energy and robotics with BP in Austria, to researching the health of children and mothers in rural communities with the University of Samoa.

These unique opportunities offer students valuable insights into the applications of their subject, allowing them to explore emerging developments in fields that interest them, while nurturing important academic and professional skills.

Chris Rokos will also fund the Rokos Awards, given in recognition of high achievement in public examinations. Pembroke’s Scholars and Exhibitioners - those who achieve a First in all or most of their exams - will receive up to £1,000 per year, in addition to a scholars’ gown, an invitation to the annual Scholars’ Lecture and Dinner, and public recognition in College.

We are immensely grateful to Chris Rokos for his generosity and commitment to the academic development and performance of our undergraduate community.

We encourage all our students to engage fully not only with what their tutorials teach them, but with the ways their research might have an impact on the world around us. We hope that schemes like these will support our undergraduates to find their place within international, interdisciplinary contexts, while at Pembroke and in years to come.
