Pembroke graduate, Isabel Wilkinson, wins Bronze for chemistry research presentation in Parliament

Congratulations to Isabel Wilkinson (Organic Chemistry, 2015) who recently won the bronze prize for excellence in her chemistry research on drug targets for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Isabel was awarded with a £750 prize and bronze medal.

She presented her research to dozens of politicians and a panel of expert judges, as part of the poster competition STEM for BRITAIN, on Wednesday 13th March and was judged against 29 other shortlisted researchers.

Isabel shared with the Royal Society of Chemistry: ‘It’s such an honour to win. I applied because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to speak to MPs and it’s wonderful to hear about new research in other STEM fields too. Usually when I go to conferences, it’s all about chemistry.

Science communication is really important. There’s no point in scientists only talking amongst ourselves – we have to be able to communicate our work to others so we bring the public along with us as we make our discoveries.’

STEM for BRITAIN aims to help politicians understand more about the UK’s thriving science and engineering base and rewards some of the strongest scientific and engineering research being undertaken in the UK.
