Oxbotica Advancement: UK Motorway Driverless Car Trial Set for 2019

NEWS |

Earlier this week a consortium of British companies announced that driverless cars will be trialled for the first time on public roads at high speed in 2019.

The Driven group plan to test driverless cars on UK roads and motorways in 2019 and hope to try out a ‘fleet of autonomous vehicles’ between London and Oxford.

The Driven group are led by Oxbotica; a robotics developer cofounded by Pembroke Fellow and Tutor in Engineering, Professor Ingmar Posner and BP Professor of Information Engineering at the University of Oxford, Professor Paul Newman.

Previous tests of driverless vehicles in the UK have not taken place on public roads or at high speeds, so this announcement marks a significant development in the field. The announcement this week has been picked up across national and international media, such as this BBC news article.
