The Master's Circle Launch

On 14th February Dame Lynne Brindley welcomed guests to her Lodgings for the inaugural event of The Master’s Circle, saying “Your financial generosity has been humbling; but we are also here to celebrate and thank you for your continuing loyalty to the College; the pride you take in our successes; and the support you bring directly and indirectly to our endeavours and challenges.”

Presentations followed by Dr Mark Fricker, Academic Director (College Strategy), Dr Hannah Smithson,  Fellow in Experimental Psychology (“Medieval science: uncovering meaning with an interdisciplinary methodology”) and Michael Price, DPhil Philosophy (“Thou sleekest Ineffabelle, poor wretch!”) before guests moved to dinner in The Harold Lee Room.

In her closing remarks the Master thanked alumnus Brian Wilson (1948 PPE) for commissioning a piece of silver for the College’s collection to mark the formation of the new Circle.  This will be made by a talented young silversmith Ndidi Ebukia who works with traditional silver beating techniques to produce beautiful pieces (including one large bowl now on display at the Ashmolean museum).
