Thursday 16th October saw the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Mr Tim Stevenson OBE, and other distinguished guests attend a special ceremony at Pembroke. Award winners were from across the county and included volunteers from a wide cross-section of Oxfordshire civic life and military reservists.

Six British Empire Medals were presented on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to individuals from Oxfordshire who have made notable contributions to civic life. The ceremony also saw the commissioning of four Deputy Lord-Lieutenants, the recognition of reservist personnel and the appointment of Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets.

The Lord-Lieutenant is an important non-political representative of the county, helping to encourage and promote the good of the community through the voluntary and civic life of the county. It is an honorary appointment and Lord-Lieutenants and their Deputy Lieutenants are among the oldest public offices in England. The Lord-Lieutenant is Her Majesty the Queen’s official representative in Oxfordshire.
