Lord-Lieutenant's Awards Ceremony

On Tuesday 3rd November, the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire - Mr Tim Stephenson OBE - attended a prestigious awards ceremony at Pembroke College sponsored by the South East Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association.

The Lord-Lieutenant appointed his new Cadets, presented awards to members of the Reserves Forces and Cadets, and presented British Empire Medals to local members of the Oxfordshire Community.

This year, four British Empire Medals were presented on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to individuals from Oxfordshire who have made notable contributions to civic life. Mrs Janet Haylett, Mr Maurice Humphris, Mrs Susan Myatt and Ms Heather Shute were this year’s recipients. Established in 1922, the British Empire Medal (BEM) replaced the Medal of the Order of the British Empire and is presented for meritorious civilian service worthy of recognition by the Crown.

In addition, ten members of the Reserve and Cadet Forces were presented with Meritorious Service Awards, four individuals received Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets Awards, and Senior Aircraftsman A. Witwicki was awarded The Fuller, Smith and Turner Best Reservist Award in recognition of the greatest contribution to the Reserve Service in the last year.

Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenants are the representatives of the Crown for each county in the United Kingdom, appointed to this voluntary role by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister.
