Local Conservation Trust Award for new buildings at Pembroke
NEWS |
Pembroke is delighted to have received an award from the Oxford Preservation Trust for its new buildings and quads which were opened earlier this year. The judging committee seeks to recognise significant contributions made to Oxford's built and natural environment throughout the year, and in 2013 eight projects received full awards. The architects for our new spaces, Berman Gueddes Stretton, as well as the contractors who built them, Kingerlee Ltd, were represented at the ceremony and collected the award alongside Pembroke's Bursar, John Church, who directed the project for the College.
Pembroke's new buildings and quads have enabled us to become a College with a very broad range of facilities, from a multi-purpose auditorium to a cafe enjoyed by all, from modern teaching rooms to an art gallery. The new bedrooms which have been added mean that all undergraduates are guaranteed at least three years of accommodation in College, and more graduate student living spaces are now available. Having such extensive new facilities joined to our historic site by our new bridge creates a uniquely extended College space, and the flexibility in physical terms to be able to pursue our academic activities in the coming years.
