JCR / MCR Mentoring Scheme Launched at Pembroke
NEWS |
Students at Pembroke have launched a new initiative called the ‘JCR/MCR Mentoring Scheme’, whereby graduate students can offer academic and study skills guidance to undergraduates.
Both graduate and undergraduate students in any year group can sign up to register for the initiative, which aims to facilitate effective learning and encourage a support network among the Pembroke student body.
The scheme, endorsed by Pembroke’s Governing Body and Academic Committee, was launched by Will Brockbank (MCR Academic Rep) and Will Fawcett (MCR General Rep / former MCR President) in conjunction with the Academic Office. Plans began following discussions between members of the JCR, MCR and academic support staff, who agreed that encouraging a shared learning environment between the College’s undergraduate and postgraduate communities would further enhance students’ academic experience.
Will Brockbank explains: ‘Participating graduates are not here to "give the answers", but rather guide undergraduates towards solutions themselves. Graduates might act as chairs of small discussion groups with a view to lend their own expertise and experience. Undergraduates will benefit from exploring their studies through the eyes of those who have made the transition to graduate study.’
He added: ‘As somebody with prior experience of creating and participating in mentoring schemes, I was naturally drawn to the project, believing that there is much to be gained for both undergraduate mentees and their graduate mentors.’
Current students can follow this link for information on how to sign up.
