FameLab Runner Up Spot for Becky Smethurst

Pembroke graduate student Becky Smethurst (2013, DPhil Astrophysics) has been awarded a runner up prize in the UK grand finals of the 2014 FameLab competition.

FameLab is an international competition which seeks to identify talented scientists and engineers witha a passion for communicating their ideas and research to the wider public.  Founded in 2005 by Cheltenham Festivals in conjunction with NESTA, and now working with the British Council, FameLab now operates in 20 countries around the globe and more than 3,800 researchers have taken part.

At this year's competition Becky Smethurst showed how we know that the universe is expanding by using the phenomenon of the siren on a police car changing pitch as it races past.
