Pembroke College & Oxnet Summer School
PAST EVENT | 31 July 2016 09:00 - 05 August 2016 17:00
This week-long residential summer school is aimed at sixth form students on access initiatives linked to Pembroke College. The summer school is split into three individual schools: Humanities; Theology & Science.
The summer school is the final event for Pembroke’s access initiatives: Pem-Brooke London and Pembroke North; North West Theology & Religious Studies Centre; and the North West Science Centre.
In 2016, we will also be welcoming three students from India, through the Karta Initiative, plus two of their teachers. They will join three students from Tufts University, Boston who are now undergraduates but who graduated from Tuft's Bridge to Liberal Arts Success at Tufts (BLAST) Access programme. Further information on Pembroke’s access initiatives are detailed on the Pembroke website.Further information on Pembroke’s access initiatives are detailed on the Pembroke website.
This summer school will give students the chance to experience what it is like to study their subject interest at University level.
Students are set work by postgraduate students in their chosen subject, which they complete with access to Pembroke College’s extensive resources, and with the assistance of undergraduate mentors.
The Summer School culminates in a traditional Oxford tutorial, in which the students are expected to discuss and defend their work with their postgraduate tutor. This challenging but highly rewarding experience gives students an unrivalled opportunity to speak directly with an expert on their work, and gives them the taste of a unique element of the Oxford academic experience.
