North West Philosophy and World Religions Centre

The North West Philosophy and World Religions (The Stewart Sutherland Centre) at Ashton Sixth Form College offers an academic programme, sponsored by the Goldsmiths Company, that is open to Year 12 students in state sixth forms across Greater Manchester and Cheshire. Students will have access to lectures and seminars delivered by academics from some of the country’s leading universities and inter-faith discussion events hosted by community groups. There will also be opportunities to apply for an Easter study skills school and a residential summer school at the University of Oxford.

The programme will be focused around a central theme each year, which will be considered from a range of disciplinary and faith perspectives. In 2019, speakers will join us from universities including the University of Oxford and the University of Manchester.

During the college day, the Philosophy and World Religions Studies Centre provides a space for class teaching, private study, tutorials and outreach events for local secondary school pupils. It also houses a collection of theology texts which Ashton Sixth Form students are welcome to use to supplement their A-Level studies.
