Yoni Stone (2014) Awarded YOPEY Second Place

A first year Pembroke undergraduate has had his school charity work recognised with the award of second place at the Hertfordshire Young People of the Year (YOPEY) Awards 2014.

Yoni Stone led fundraising initiatives at his school which raised more than £50,000 in two years - while £2,500 was for Jewish charity Kisharon and £7,500 for Harrow Multiple Sclerosis Centre, the majority was for Kidzcare Tanzania, a charity which works with underprivileged and orphaned children in Tanzania, by providing them with education, nutrition and medical support.

Yoni was nominated for the Smith-Milne Young People of the Year by his school chaplain. The Rev Jan Goodair said that Yoni is “an exceptional young man who has devoted a phenomenal amount of time and energy to raising funds”. Justin Smith-Milne, principal of Smith-Milne & Co accountants of Rickmansworth, presented Yoni with his prize. He said Yoni's “leadership skills have encouraged others to make a real positive difference, touching the lives of many people both at home and abroad".

YOPEYs are Oscars for young people who 'give to others'. The movement was founded in Hertfordshire 10 years ago by a former national newspaper journalist.
