Pembroke Fellow publishes article on Russian public opinion

Pembroke Fellow in Politics Professor Stephen Whitefield has published an article with Professor Paul Chaisty on Russian public opinion against President Putin, support for President Putin, and the history and impact of sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The authors considered the political consequences of the economic sanctions imposed on Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine. Will sanctions help to shift opinion against Putin and stir Russians into political action to protest the war and help end it? Or will they have the effect of leading Russians to rally round the flag and solidify Putin’s coalition?

The article is titled 'Economic sanctions not likely to shift Russian public opinion against Putin immediately' and you can read it on the UK in a Changing Europe's website here
