MCR Host Virtual Academic Symposium for Hilary Term
NEWS |
During the 7th week of Hilary Term, our MCR hosted the Academic Symposium, the second time this event has been held in a virtual setting following a successful and engaging one in Michaelmas Term. The symposium allows MCR students to present their research to the Pembroke community, and take constructive feedback and questions from a receptive audience.
Tim Kuiper started off the evening with a discussion on the reliability of poaching data collected by wildlife rangers in Zimbabwe, and the extent to which this data can improve anti-poaching efforts. Tim spoke on his successful collaboration with the rangers in Zimbabwe on his data modelling, and shared some great anecdotes on his research in the field.
Next up, Muhammad Rizwan Khan shared his finding on the culture of compliance under international standards. His research indicated that too heavy a degree of compliance led to adverse impacts within international organisations, and should be balanced with the right levels of innovation without allowing for corruption.
Finally, Panarat Rohleder shared her insights on the underrepresentation of female leadership in the United States of America. In her presentation, she touched upon how the glass ceiling prohibits many women from seeking leadership positions, and how a lack of women in political leadership and representation often disincentivises young women from pursuing a similar path.
The MCR would like to say thank you to the three presenters who expertly shared their experiences with us, and to the audience for asking such informative questions.
